A Zipline in the Philippines? Yes!

December 20, 2008 (Legaspi): On our continuing journey north, we drove up Lignon Hill to get a vista view of the Legaspi/Tabaco area. The hill was under construction. They are creating an "extreme" outdoor activities area with a zip line, rock repelling, and paintball--just to name a few. The first part of the zip line run was open for business--it had just been "blessed" the day before. For 100 pesos we could take a ride--well, Terri could take a ride. In the nicest way possible and without trying to offend or embarrass me, Eric, the developer explained that the zip line had been built to hold the average Filippino and so for safety reasons, I couldn't ride the line. I was rather disappointed...but thrilled to watch Terri take a ride. She was the fourth foreigner to ride the 160 meters long zip line which has a 150 meter drop.

Here's a picture of Eric at the entrance to the activity area.

Ready?

...Set...

GO!!!!!
I love this photo because you get to see my parents trying to capture Terri's zip line adventure on video. The video is posted at the bottom of this entry.

As we were getting ready to leave, there was a group of YSA's standing in front of my parents Ford taking pictures. I guess they really liked the car (why? It's a Ford?). They were really excited when we showed up so they could get a picture of the Americans with the car too. Anyway, my dad struck up a conversation with them, which then turned into an opportunity to share the gospel. It was a highlight of the day to see my dad do missionary work!

So, does that mean that whan Max and I visit, we won't be able to do the zipline?

In South America owning a Ford is high class. Same thing in Europe... I imagine that owning an American car is a status symbol anywhere in the world, except America!
